Rajeev's advice to others
My agent told me my policy was 'comprehensive.' Bima Analyze showed me the whole story.
The Full Story
Rajeev, a 46-year-old from Patna, believes in being financially prudent. A small businessman, husband, and father of two, as he says often, "Insurance is like a helmet-you don't wear it hoping for an accident, but you'd be foolish to ride without it." So, when he bought a health policy five years ago, he did so with the same practicality.
His agent, a long-time acquaintance, called it a "comprehensive" plan, a word Rajeev found reassuring. "He told me it covered everything, room rent, surgeries, day-care procedures, everything," Rajeev recalls. "It sounded perfect. I didn't think I needed to read the fine print." Like most policyholders, he signed the papers, set up auto-debit for the premium, and moved on with life.
For years, the policy sat quietly in his drawer, out of sight, out of mind. Then, one morning, a message in his family WhatsApp group caught his attention. A friend had shared a link to Bima Analyze with a caption: "Check if your policy actually covers what you think it does." Rajeev hesitated at first, but curiosity won. "I thought, what's the harm? Let's just see."
He uploaded his policy document on the Bima Analyze platform. In a few minutes, his report was ready. What he saw next made him uneasy.
"It was like opening a drawer I thought was full of safety nets, only to discover half of them were not there," he said. His supposedly 'comprehensive' plan had a cap on room rent, which would limit the choices of hospital rooms, a four-year waiting period for pre-existing diseases, and exclusions to cover common procedures such as cataract surgery or hernia repair.
"I had never realised how small clauses could make such a big difference," Rajeev said. "I assumed that if my policy said ₹5 lakh coverage, I'd get ₹5 lakh. But in reality, depending on where I got admitted, I might only be able to claim half that amount."
The realization was unsettling. "It wasn't anger, really. There was more disbelief. I kept thinking, how could I have missed this?" he says. To Rajeev, the report from Bima Analyze was an eye-opener. It didn't just highlight gaps; it explained to him why those gaps mattered. Relatable examples and real-life cost scenarios were used, showing him how easily hospital bills could cross what his plan would actually pay.
That night, Rajeev discussed the findings with his wife. They both agreed not to rush into cancelling the plan but instead explore options for top-up coverage and policy upgrades. More importantly, Rajeev started advising his friends and employees to use Bima Analyze before buying or renewing any policy.
"Insurance agents aren't always wrong," he says thoughtfully. "They just don't always tell you the full picture. Bima Analyze does. It shows you both the strengths and the blind spots - and that's the kind of truth you need before life surprises you."
Today, Rajeev still has his old plan, but with a whole new point of view. "I used to think I had full coverage," he admits. "Now I have a full understanding. There's a big difference."
